SkyTeam
In globalizing world, the companies’ efficiency directly depends the products offered by carriers for transportation of passengers and freighting of cargoes. To this end, in 2000, Air France, Aeromexico, Delta, and Korean Air united to form the SkyTeam alliance. Today it includes nine members: Aeroflot, Air France, Aeromexico, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern,China Southern Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta, KLM, and Korean Air. Currently SkyTeam serves 19% of the aviation market, the world’s second largest share, somewhat ahead of One World and closely following Star Alliance.
In 2007, Air Europa (Spain) and Кеnya Airways (Кеnya) joined the alliance as associated SkyTeam members. This is a new stage in the roadmap of closer cooperation.
European, American, and Asian partners jointly operate flights on the basis of «code sharing» agreements. They aim at strengthening their positions on the world market and, in case of economic meltdown, maintaining their presence for the destinations served by the alliance. In an unfavorable situation, the alliance allows the impact of external factors to be mitigated.
SkyTeam’s strength is based on a vast worldwide network of routes supported by the alliance member’s hubs, including Aeroflot’s in Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Air France и KLM’s hub in Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Schiphol in Amsterdam, Delta’s hub in Atlanta (the world’s largest), Korean Air’s in Seoul (the Incheon airport equipped with state-of-the-art facilities), and Latin America’s largest airport in Mexico City which is Aeromexico’s hub.
